If you short attention spam kiddos haven’t read this yet, you need to.
Mods are asking nicely for you to follow a few rules on Theme-Day posts. You should pay attention before you screw it up for everybody.
I know, you all want to see your perfect cars and perfect posts shown to no one who actually cares. But it makes you feel good to see your hard work shown.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

You know, I’ve been around Oppo now for long enough that I can say that the theme days and some of the silliness don’t bother me. They have been here forever. Before Oppo was even Oppo. Back when it was just Off Topic. The fact that Oppo doesn’t take itself too seriously is part of the fun. The fact that it wanders off and looks at things other than cars is ok. In my mind this is a group of people I enjoy interacting with and we don’t always need to be on message for it to be worthwhile. Just my $0.02.

Damn, sorry. I’ve never seen that post. :(

I knew spam made a lot of flavors, but I’ve never heard of attention spam.

I really don’t mind the theme day stuff. We’ve had days where there are barely any posts at all. The theme days give people who don’t normally post a reason to join the discussion. Plus, it’s not like we’re really missing anything important by having about 30 different posts on the same topic.

Thank you, I couldnt link it properly in my post because Mobile

Am I the only one who scrolls right past all the theme posts?

Oppo has become more of an entity rather than a discussion board controlled by rules. I see the nuisance come and go from time to time but you know what? I don’t think it’s a nuisance at all. You know what I do when I see a slew of posts that I feel are pretty well worthless? I close the browser and do something else. Eventually I’ll come back and see Oppo has starting talking about something I’m more keen to take an interest in. Obviously somebody was interested in the plethora of seemingly (to some people) non-sense posts. It’s part of the charm, I think.
It all can’t be perfect all the time in everyone’s eyes. If it were then I don’t think it would be interesting. No, if a given group was completely content with a consistent flow of information, never changing or going outside their norm, I’d say that is a pretty boring group. I think there’s a phrase for what I’m trying to say.
Keep Oppo (insert adjective here).

Taken and understood. They have been here for a long time. I don’t know how long I have been here, but it has been a while. The current TD is at least appropriate for the venue.
Maybe I am just over reacting. I just find the depth of the great articles so interrupted by things that nobody really cares about.

My pleasure.

Yeah I hate that the good articles get overshadowed too (including a few of my own). Opposite-blog is where all the good stuff goes.

Nope.

I do to. It just makes it harder/longer to get to the real and well written posts that I like to read.
The mods are great folks. I just wish we could condense all this and put the good stuff out there for people to read. My opinion.

Well stated.

Agree.

I understand. I have had things I worked hard on get 3 or 4 comments and then die while Bert Strips gets 1000 views. I've also had little things make the FP that I didn't expect. Live by the Oppo and die by the Oppo.

We used to have theme days all the time, but everything in moderation.

Agreed. Just scroll in if don't want to see it.

Indeed

Yeah, sometimes theme stuff interests me, sometimes it annoys me. But any content is good content in my opinion. (Except bad content)

I know that feeling. I read most everything you post. Don’t comment on most, but read.

Fuck the mods, theme days are fine.
I’ve been on here forever, they’ve always been fun. Maybe it’s a bit much if it goes on for 24 hours, but it rarely does. Trying to post quality content? Let it calm down and then post
Good articles only get overlooked if they are posted at a bad time. Repost them if they are, they'll get the attention they deserve

Same logic we should have used for NSFW posts. But nooooooooo

I know but look what they did to poor punkgirl last night. They've got to play it safe.

I’m usually the last person to stumble upon drama on here by happinstance. Don’t be alarmed but I wasn’t at all surprised about what unfolded.

I don’t know, I see both sides of that story. To be honest, I’m a little uncomfortable even being friendly with guys here who turn out to be 21 and under. I teach, and most teachers’ biggest nightmare is any hint of impropriety with someone our students’ age (or the age of anyone we’ve formerly taught!). I’m over-the-top careful in that regard. But I was also a teenage girl who navigated her way through IRC chatrooms other sketchy areas of the internet without people I didn’t know publicly censoring me. Its tough to navigate that without a virtual option of pulling someone aside and advising them in private.

Yeah I saw that coming too.

There was no good way that could have played out. As a father, that young lady could’ve been my child and I believe the conservative approach was best to take. There’s a ton of sick fuckers out there.

Not denying that at all. But nearly all of the scariest situations I’ve been in as a female have been caused by someone I knew in person. The rest, someone I didn’t know but still came face-to-face with (my other job is not particularly safe). Not saying she doesn’t need some well-intended advice on the dangers of the internet but statistically speaking, Oppo is far less of a threat than her school or the local hangout. And the public humiliation of being a teenage girl that the forum just singled out wasn’t the best way it could have been handled - kinja just leaves no other option. The whole thing is just unfortunate.

Agreed

It could be worse. It could be like most other front page areas where you don’t really comment because you’d never get a reply anyway (kotaku, gawker, etc). At least on oppositelock, you have a large group that does more than just grab car wallpapers. :P
